JEREMY MENDES
INTERACTIVE CREATOR

A man of many hats, Jeremy is interactive creator, producer, art director and documentary film maker based

amazing work that's won much praise for its unique content and technical innovation.

BEAR 71
Constant video surveillance, satellite tracking, radio collars...
sometimes it's hard to tell where the wired world ends and the wild one begins.

A ground-breaking interactive documentary, Bear 71's heart-wrenching story allows users to walk a mile from the perspective of the bear. Through a data grid comprised of 1 million images we witness her encounters in Banff National Park. The NFB partnered with Google
to reimagine Bear71 in virtual reality. Optimized for the Google DayDream, Bear71 works across platforms in WebVR. Using VR data-visualization to explore the connection between humans, nature and technology, Bear71’s legacy lives on.

SEVEN DEADLY SINS
Is our online behaviour subject to the same standards as we uphold in real life? By reimagining the classic seven deadly
sins for a digital age, Jeremy Mendes interactive documentary Seven Deadly Sins reflects on how online life affects our moral compass.

THIS LAND | NFB INTERACTIVE
In March 2007 seven Canadian and Inuit Rangers, riding in a convoy of snowmobiles, covered more than 2000km from Resolute to the northernmost tip of Canadian soil – 412km from the North Pole.  Joining the mission was filmmaker Dianne Whelan. As the first woman and non-military member of a northern patrol there was skepticism about her ability to make it. As a full-fledged member of the expedition, she was expected to pull a 2000-lb wooden sled behind her snowmobile, through blizzards, -50°C temperatures,
labyrinths of crushed sea ice and near-impassable glaciers.

Creators – Jeremy Mendes and Dianne Whelan.
